A practical comparison of outer fabric, lining, coatings, webbing, zippers, and reinforcement for gym bags.

Treat the fabric name as a starting point
Two bags described as polyester can feel and perform differently. Yarn size, weave, backing, coating, and finishing all affect the result. Ask for the exact fabric used on the sample and keep a swatch with the approved specification. A broad label such as polyester is not enough to reproduce the same hand feel, color, or structure in a later order.
Separate water resistance from waterproofing
A coated outer fabric may resist light rain or splashes, but water can still enter through zippers and seams. A wet pocket also depends on its lining and construction, not only the outer fabric. Buyers who need stronger protection should describe the actual use and ask how the sample will be checked. Avoid using the word waterproof unless the complete bag has evidence to support it.
Check lining and internal dividers
Lining changes how the inside feels and how easy it is to clean. Light-colored lining makes small items easier to find, while darker colors can hide marks from shoes and training equipment. Ask how the lining is attached around pockets and zipper openings. Loose lining can catch on packed items even when the outer shell looks well made.
Compare webbing, hardware, and zippers together
Handles and shoulder straps rely on webbing, stitching, buckles, and attachment points as one system. A heavy buckle does not improve the bag if the webbing or seam is weak. Open and close every zipper on the sample, adjust the strap, and check the hardware under a realistic load. Record the approved components instead of relying on a general description such as standard accessories.
Build a material brief for the quotation
Send a reference model, intended use, target quantity, color, logo artwork, destination, and any required compartment. State whether light splash resistance, easy cleaning, low weight, or a firm structure matters most. This gives the supplier enough context to recommend a sample material without presenting one fabric as the best choice for every project.
Discuss a gym bag project
Send the model number, quantity, artwork, destination, and required date. We will reply with the remaining questions needed for pricing and sampling.
