How to Specify Front Pockets for a Custom Gym Bag
Plan front pockets around the items that need quick access, then check the opening, depth, and carry path on a loaded gym bag sample.

Give each front pocket a job
Start with the items that need to be reached without opening the main compartment. Keys, a phone, access cards, or a small towel may need different pocket sizes and opening positions. Write the intended item beside each pocket in the brief. "Add a front pocket" is too vague to check on a sample.
Match the opening to the item
A zipper pocket works for small items that should stay closed while the bag moves. A wider opening can make a folded item easier to load, but it also needs enough closure coverage to keep the contents in place. State the pocket opening width, closure type, and the point where the zipper or flap ends. Confirm those details on the sewn sample rather than on a drawing alone.
Use current gym bag layouts as starting points
Model 2620 is listed with two front pockets, side storage, and a shoulder strap. Models 4503 and 4504 use front storage with side pockets and a reinforced base. These are useful starting layouts, but the product pages do not fix the final pocket dimensions for a new order. Put the target item, opening, and depth into the quotation and sample notes.
Check pocket depth against the loaded bag
A pocket can look generous when the bag is empty and become hard to use when the main compartment is full. Load the bag with the items it is meant to carry, then check whether the front pocket still opens without pulling against the side panels or handle attachments. Note whether the pocket should sit flat, expand with a gusset, or stay close to the body.
Keep pocket placement clear of the carry points
Mark the pocket in relation to the handles, shoulder strap clips, side panels, and base. The front pocket should remain usable when the bag is carried by hand or on the shoulder. Ask for a sample with the intended strap path and hardware so you can check access from the position in which the bag will actually be used.
Record the approved construction
Keep the pocket purpose, finished opening, depth, closure, lining, fabric, and placement in one specification. Add photos of the approved sample and note any change made after testing.
